Random Tips and Tales
I’m kicking off a wiki/blog site to share some tips, reviews, and life posts. Expect plenty of cyber and gaming content, plus some blogging. Check out the navigation bar up top for more; bear with me as I spin this site up. A lot of empty placeholders for now.
Who?
Just me, really. My name is Alan and I work at Google with over a decade of experience. My day job as a principal analyst consists of tracking cyber threats. What kind? All sorts 🙃. On the side, I game on PC and PS5, enjoying a wide array of genres.
What’s here?
Note: Throughout this site, I use mouseover/glossary tooltip for most abbreviations. Works best on Desktop.
- Gaming is growing with all sorts of gaming-related content, much of it being novel scenarios I run into. For example, Assetto Corsa (AC) requires a ton of custom setup with little consolidation of reliable, up-to-date information – I’ll build it out over time. Some clips/screenshots/stories will come about too.
- AC is my primary grind, as Christmas brought in a g923 that has pushed driving sims to the top of my list. Against the Storm and League of Legends round out my current rotation.
- Cyber consists of effectively two parts:
- Career observations and experiences. The amount of people who have asked me for an opinion on what certs matter, what education to pursue, and what specialty to enter can honestly justify a docs site of its own.
- Threat analysis. I don’t do much analysis outside of work, but I do run into the occasional interesting phish or novel malware practice that I want to write up for the public.
- Life kinda speaks for itself. It is a blog that I want to use for random things, like a camping tent review, gear layout, desk setups, health journeys, and the likes.
- Spoiler: North Face Wawona 6 is my favorite tent. Much better than an Army “tent” that’s for sure.
